Summary for Policymakers: Good practices and lessons learned on the setup and implementation of National Systems of Innovation

Resource Summary

This summary provides a conceptual framework for policymakers to design and implement National Systems of innovation (NSI) in climate actions. Drawing on six selected case studies with both mitigation and adaptation initiatives—India, Kenya, Haiti, Brazil, Jakarta (Indonesia), and Denmark, it analyzes key lessons learned from these experiences. For instance, the case studies show that successful innovation requires both technology push and pull policies. The case studies examine funding sources, whether the project is mitigation- or adaptation-focused, top-down or bottom-up approaches, key innovation system functions, international support received, and the beneficiaries of each initiative. By assessing these factors, the report aims to ensure that NSI is effectively structured and resourced to drive innovation in climate action.
