Introduction to climate and disaster risk management and financing

Course Objective
This is the first of three modules on Climate and Disaster Risk Management and Financing (CDRMF) to strengthen financial protection for vulnerable populations. It covers risk understanding, management phases, and financial tools for disaster response and recovery. This material is completed by Case studies climate and disaster risk financing solutions and Introduction to Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment and Modelling.
Learning Outcomes
- Understanding of climate and disaster risk, its components, localization, and ownership
- Knowledge of prevention, preparedness, recovery, and risk financing options including retention, transfer, and risk layering
- Familiarity with funding mechanisms, timing and scale of financing and the Global Shield framework
Why This Matters
Climate and disaster risks are rising, and ad-hoc funding delays recovery. Applying CDRMF principles accelerates finance flows and builds resilience.
